SOUTH RANGE
Robert Lee Whipple, Sr., 71, a resident of South Range, died Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at UP Health System Portage.
He was born December 11, 1946, in Grand Rapids, Mich., a son of the late Myron and Lillian (Wellman) Whipple,
Bob received his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in1980. He worked at Tech for 32 years as a research scientist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Bob was a veteran of the United States Army serving during Viet Nam. He was a member of Ranger Post 6165 VFW of South Range where he served as Post Quartermaster.
He was married to the former Diana Palonen on October 21, 2000.
Bob is survived his wife Diana “DeeDee” of South Range; his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his son, Robert Lee (Cindy) Whipple, Jr. of Colorado and children, Rayven (Siran) Hao, Nicholas Danish, Matthew (Heather) Danish; great-granddaughters, Rylie and Vaia; his daughter, Darleen (Paul) Jensen of Askel and their children, Desiree (Randall) Crosswhite, their children, Randall, Christopher and Conner; Deidre (Kyle) Shaner and their daughter, Khloe; a brother, David (Kathrine) Whipple of Cincinnati, Ohio; two nieces; two nephews; and several cousins.
Besides his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by a grandson, Gabriel.
A memorial service for Bob will be held in July of 2019. Arrangements are being handled by the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, Antila Funeral Service, Inc. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at antilafuneral.com.
