Obituary: Robert Kyllonen

Robert L. Kyllonen, 61, a resident of Chassell and former Laurium Police Chief passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023, at UP Health Systems – Marquette Hospital following a short illness.

He was born on January 30, 1962, in Hancock, a son of the late Kenneth and Doris (Sutinen) Kyllonen. Bob was raised in Hancock and was a graduate of the Hancock High School. He then received his criminal Justice Degree from Soumi College.

Mr. Kyllonen began a 30-year career in Law enforcement, working for the Lake Linden Police Department, Calumet Police Department, and Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, retiring as the Chief of the Laurium Police Department in 2022. He also had worked as an EMT for Mercy Ambulance for a number of years.

Robert was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Also preceding him in death was a sister-in-law: Christine Kyllonen.

Surviving are: His brothers & sisters: Richard (Heidi) Kyllonen of Spokane, WA, Ann Marie (Art) Saari of Mohawk, Stanley (Rebecca) Kyllonen of Henning, MN, Tim Kyllonen of Duluth, MN, Alan (Linda) Kyllonen of Amboy, WA, Mary Jane (Alan) Salo of Bryant, SD, James (Shana) Kyllonen Sheridan, WY, Michelle (James) Pakkala of Hayti, SD, Joan (Jason) Ruotsala of Chassell, Michael (Colleen) Kyllonen of Kalispell, MT, Bruce Kyllonen if Minneapolis, MN, & Lynn Nelson of Minneapolis, MN; Two aunts, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Funeral service for Bob will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock. Spring burial will be in the Oskar Cemetery.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 6 to 8:00 pm at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock and on Wednesday from 10 am until time of services at the church.
