Robert “Bob” Joseph Jokinen, 84, of Hancock Township, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Canal View in Hancock. Born on June 12, 1939, in Hancock to Norma (Somero) and Joseph Jokinen, Bob lived a life full of stories, love for his family and a strong connection to the shores of Lake Superior.

A 1957 graduate of Hancock High School, Bob joined the U.S. Navy after graduation, serving on the USS Ticonderoga and Midway Island. Bob returned to Hancock after his service and worked for the Hancock Police Department before becoming a linen service route driver for Aramark services, a role he maintained until retirement.

Bob married Betty LaRoche on May 7, 1966. The couple settled in Dollar Bay, raising three children, David, Christine and Michele.

Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed golfing, woodworking and restoring classic cars, with a lifelong fondness of Corvette convertibles. He cherished living on the shores of Lake Superior, had a keen eye for spotting agates and enjoyed bonfires on the beach with his family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Betty Jokinen of Hancock Township; sister, Virginia (Carl) Gilsdorf of New Port Richey, Fla.; sister-in-law Joan LaRoche, of Laurium; children, David (Sarah) Jokinen of Bellevue, Wash., Christine (Steve) Miller of Woodinville, Wash. and Michele (Adam Rolland) Jokinen of Minneapolis, Minn.; nephew Clinton (Michelle) Gilsdorf of Holt, Mich.; and grandchildren, Robert Jokinen, McLain Jokinen, Lucy Miller, Oskar Rolland and William Rolland.

A memorial service is planned for early July. The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Canal View for their compassionate care. Bob will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
