Obituary: Robert I. Jarvis Jr.

Robert I. Jarvis Jr., 81, a resident of Calumet passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.

He was born on July 25, 1937 on Quincy Hill in Hancock. A son of the late Robert and Gwendolyn (Gill) Jarvis.

He graduated from Dollar Bay High School in 1955.  He was a veteran of the United States Army with an honorable discharge in 1963. On August 28, 1965, he was united in marriage to Anita Kolmonen.

Bob was an avid Detroit fan. He loved watching the Red Wings, the Lions, and the Tigers. He also enjoyed spending time with his hunting buddies at Camp Wanabuk.

For those who knew Bob, knew he was always “happy happy.”

Bob worked as a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Local 324 for 32 years, retiring in November of 1991.

He was a member of the William Giroux American Legion Post 90 of Lake Linden, and the Operating Engineer Local 324.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gwendolyn Jarvis, his sister, Carol Sue Richards, and his loving wife, Anita.

He is survived by:

His special grandsons: Trevor and Finny
His brother in laws: Dick Richards of Hancock Canal Road, Wayne Kolmonen of Lake Linden, Terry Kolmonen of Calumet
4 sister in laws: Ann Kolmonen of Florida
Beverly (Douglas) Cope of Florida
Bonnie (Frank) Christopher of Florida
Janet (Gerry) Sevon of Calumet
And numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Per Bob’s request private services will be held.

Burial will take place in the Lake View Cemetery with the William Giroux American Legion Post 90 Honor Guard and the Copper Country Veterans Association.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Aspirus at Home for the kindness, care, and compassion they gave to Robert.
