Obituary: Richard L. Crane

Hurontown

A time to remember and celebrate the life of Richard Louis Crane (80) of Hurontown who died at home on July 12, will be held on Saturday, August 10th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Crane Berry Farm on 44416 Paradise Road, Chassell. All are welcome.

Hurontown

Richard Louis Crane (80) of Hurontown, MI died at home on July 12 of an apparent heart attack. He was born the son of Richard Crane, Sr. and Margaret Sardish on May 5, 1939. Richard grew up on a dairy farm with his grandparents, Louis and Caroline Sardish, in Menominee County. He served in the army as a paratrooper, having trained at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

After his military service, Richard worked for the Natural Resources Conservation Service for 44 years. He was honored for his work in Washington, DC with a national Soil Conservation Service Technician of the Year award. His work helped to preserve wetlands and included creating ponds and waterways for local farmers, creating dams and parks, overseeing large-scale environmental cleanup and erosion-prevention operations, and many other projects.

At 40 years old, Richard became an avid runner for two decades, often running competitively. He loved being out in nature, including hunting, fishing, biking, and outdoor trips and activities with his family. Other hobbies included gardening, woodworking, carpentry, welding, and numerous household renovation and automotive projects.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kenlyn Crane (Rivard); his sister Darlene Hanna; his children, Michael (Sarah) Crane, Dan (Mary) Crane, and Becky Crane; grandchildren Kathryn Juarez (Ryan), Amanda Deyaert (Eric), and Rachael and Max Crane; and five great-grandchildren. A time to remember and celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Saturday, August 10th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Crane Berry Farm on 44416 Paradise Road, Chassell. All are welcome.
