Houghton

Rev. Norman E. Lund, 93, retired missionary, and resident of the Bluff Senior Living Community in Houghton passed away Tuesday evening June 26, 2018, at the Omega House in Houghton surrounded by his family.

Norman was born March 22, 1925, in Houghton, MI, a son of the late Oscar and Mary (Huhtapola) Lund. He was a graduate of the Houghton High School and joined the US Navy in 1943 serving in the submarine service. He then attended Suomi College and Seminary and was called as a missionary to serve in Japan for 39 years.

Norman Lund and Wenona Strandlie met, were married, and raised their 4 sons in Japan. Norman retired, and the couple settled in Gladstone, MI until he and Wenona moved into The Bluffs Senior Living Community in Houghton, MI.

As a native of Houghton, Norman enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, sailing, golfing, tennis, skiing and especially engaging with his sons and grandchildren in sports.

Norman was preceded by his parents, Oscar and Mary, his siblings, Wilho, Wilbert, Elma, and Art.

His wife; Wenona Strandlie Lund of the Bluff’s Senior Living Community

His sons; David, Nathan, Jonathan, and Andrew,

His grandchildren, Chris, Kate, Travis, Caleb, Erik, Peter, Danielle, Steven, and Matthew and many other extended family.

A memorial service for Norman will be held 3 pm Sunday, July 8, 2018, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock, MI, with Revs. DJ Rasner and Bucky Beach to officiate. Interment will be in the Gloria Dei Columbarium.

Friends may call on Sunday, July 8, 2018, from 2 pm until the time of the service at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.
