Reino W. Ketola, age 92 of L’Anse, MI passed on January 2, 2023 at Bayside Village, L’Anse where he had been a resident for the past year. He was born in Pequaming, MI on October 22, 1930 the son of the late Eli and Alma (Helke) Ketola. Reino graduated from L’Anse High School. He married the former Marie Tolonen in Hancock, MI on June 21, 1952 and had celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary a month before Marie passed away on July 12, 2022. Reino served as a medic in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Reino attended Ferris State University, then Andrews University while raising 3 children and working at a local hospital while studying heavy equipment and diesel repair. He owned Ketola Standard Station in L’Anse for a short time in the 1960’s. Reino started Ketola Logging with 1 horse named “Katie” and was the 1st logger in the area to pull a pup trailer. He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church, L’Anse. You could find Marie and Reino on Saturday afternoons taking a ride to Skanee to look at the deer, and they often went on weekend trips together, a favorite was to Two Harbors, MN to watch the big ore boats come in. Reino enjoyed logging, reading his bible daily in prayer, spending time with his grandchildren and watching old westerns with Marie. Reino would tell Marie “Good morning beautiful’ and “I love you” at night. His heart was broken when she passed away.
Reino is survived by his loving children; Ken Ketola of L’Anse, Steve (Ailen) Ketola of Berrien Springs, MI, Trudy Ketola of L’Anse, Corinne (Ed) Fetingis of McDonald, Tennessee, and Karen (Mike) Dault of L’Anse, grandchildren Matthew (Victoria) Fetingis, and Ryan and Kaci Dault. Several nephews and a niece also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Martin and Millie Ketola and his wife Marie.

Military honors and interment will take place in the Spring in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
