Ray Poyhonen, 91, a resident of Hancock passed away Sunday November 24, 2024, at the Canal View — Houghton County where he was a resident patient.
He was born on November 15, 1933, in Hancock a son of the late Oscar and Wilhelmina (Tapani) Poyhonen. Ray was raised in Hancock and a graduate of the Hancock High School.
Mr. Poyhonen was a veteran having served with the United States Army during the Korean War.
Following his service Ray returned to the area and worked for C&H Copper Mine and Railway Express before beginning a career working for Upper Peninsula Power Company which he retired after 34 years of service with.
Ray was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Rantanen. The couple resided in Hancock where they raised their family
Mr. Poyhonen was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. He enjoyed time outdoors, hunting, fishing and going for ATV rides.
Preceding him in death were his parents and 11 siblings.

His sister: Ruth Jurmu
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service for Ray will be held 12:00 noon Wednesday November 27, 2024, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Mark Halonen to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Waasa Cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday November 27, 2024, from 10:00 am until time of services at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.
