Obituary: Paul M. Hill

Paul M. Hill, 74, a resident of Obenhoff, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021, at his home following a short illness.    

He was born on April 13, 1947, a son of the late John and Mayme (Taavola) Hill.  Paul was raised in Atlantic Mine and Houghton were he was a graduate of the Houghton High School.    

On August 29, 1970, he was united in marriage to the former Phyllis Siirtola.  The couple resided in Coles Creek until moving to make their home in Obenhoff in the early 90’s.  On April 12, 2014, Phyllis preceded Paul in death.     

He then worked for his father-in-law at Siirtola Well before beginning a career with Michigan Gas Company.  Paul retired at an earlier age due to health issues, but he continued to stay as active as he could.  Paul was a avid snowmobiler and a past president of the Range Snowmobile Club.  He also enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting and fishing.    

Preceding him in death were His wife, his parents, his sister Karen Halkola, and his brothers James Taavola and John Hill Jr.    

Surviving are: His children: Jodi Orent, Michael (Heatther) Hill; His grandchildren: Austin (Tina) Koch, Elizabeth Koch, and Carter Orent;  His sister Kristine Holland; His brother Doug (Barb) Hill; His sister-in-law: Lanie Siirtola & Rosemarie Taavola; His brother-in-law: Daryl Chapin & Mark Halkola; Several nieces, nephews and cousins    

A memorial service for Paul will be held 1:00 pm Thursday at the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, with Pastor Arvo Onermaa to officiate.  Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.    

Friends may call on Thursday from 11 am until time of services at the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range.
