Obituary: Paul D. Monette

Chassell

Paul D. Monette, 82, a former resident of Chassell passed away Friday, June 21, 2019, at the UP-Health Portage Hospital following a lengthy illness.

He was born on May 12, 1937, in Hancock, a son of the late Walter and Lila (Rodda) Monette. Paul was raised in Houghton and was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1955.

Mr. Monette was a veteran having served with the United States Marine Corp. He had worked at Hornick’s Gas Station in Houghton the City of Houghton Police Department and Houghton County Sheriff’s Department. He then began a career working for the United States Postal Service in Houghton and retired in 1991, as the Postmaster in South Range.

In 1961, he was united in marriage to the former Priscilla Mattson. The couple had resided in Houghton until moving to make their home in Chassell in 1972.

Paul enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting & fishing. He also was active with the Houghton County Fair Board for a short time.

His sons: Paul (Lori) Monette of Lake Linden

Michael (Tammi) Monette of Chassell

His grandchildren: Natalie Monette, Tyler (Samantha) Monette, Danielle (Shane) Hupp and Ashlynn (Trevor) Kalcich

Several great grandchildren

His brother: Walter Monette of Milwaukee, WI

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Paul will be held 11 am Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Friends may call on Saturday, June 29, 2019, from 10 am until time of services at the church.
