Patrick “Moose” Donald Goodreau, 79, of L’Anse, Michigan, went home to be with his LORD and Savior on July 27, 2022. Patrick was the beloved and devoted husband of Kay, the loving father of David (Wendy) Goodreau and Daniel (Dawn) Goodreau, both of L’Anse, Michigan. He was the loving son of Donald “Moose” and Elizabeth “Betty” Goodreau. He was also the loving brother to BJ (Payman) Homayouni of Cedarburg, Wisconsin and Grace Ann Sepic of San Antonio, Texas. He is survived by his loving grandchildren, Chelsea, Cody (Haley), Rebekah (Ian Helman), Cameron and Kason, five nieces and nephews and his devoted dog, Ginger. Pat is preceded in death by both parents, his brother, Michael, his sister Annette Jalayer, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Patrick grew up in L’Anse, Michigan and graduated from L’Anse High School in 1960. In May 1960 he enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States Navy and served on the USS Steinaker during the shakedown cruise off Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1963, he was honorably discharged.
Patrick would return to L’Anse where he would stay for the remainder of his life. He married Kathleen Ann Kristo and they welcomed two children, David and Daniel.
Patrick served his community as mayor of the Village of L’Anse for more than 10 years. He began working for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, starting as an operator, advancing into maintenance, and was eventually promoted to Maintenance Coordinator. He retired from the mines after 31 years. In his retirement, Patrick would enjoy driving trucks for Whitman Construction and Baraga County Concrete.
Patrick spent a lot of time doing what he loved, being outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved caring for his lawn, waging great battles against dandelions. Above all things, his family was most important. Over the years, he was a cheerleader for his grandchildren regularly supporting all their extracurricular activities. He was a good storyteller with a fun sense of humor. He enjoyed taking his loyal companion, Ginger, for regular rides in his truck and side by side. Patrick will be missed by many friends and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2022 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Mark Broberg officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Immediately following the funeral service, military honors and interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. A luncheon will be served in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral home following the interment.
