Obituary: Patrick J. Rose

As received from Antila Funeral Service:

Patrick J. “Pat” Rose, 71, a resident of Hancock, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 5, 2020, with family by his side.
He was born June 3, 1949, in Lansing, Michigan, a son of the late James and Kathleen (Ross) Rose.

Pat was a 1967 graduate of the Hancock Central High School. He enlisted into the United States Navy during his senior year and went to basic training during Christmas break. He served two years during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Haleakala and was honorably discharged in 1969.
He then attended Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, receiving a bachelor’s degree in business.

During the 1980’s Pat owned and operated the Car Lot & Muffler Center in Hancock. He stayed in sales working at Copper Country Ford, Lindrus Chevrolet, The Form House, and Parkway Motors, retiring from there in 2012.

Pat was married to Diane M. (Secord) Paoli on October 20, 1989.

After his retirement, Pat enjoyed the years in early Spring driving out to Palm Desert, California, where he and Diane spent vacation time at Palm Desert Greens Country Club. There, he enjoyed the beautiful warm weather, golfing, and sharing good times with his dear friends, Rick and JoAnne Yeo, Dennis and Erma Hanks and with the many other great friends they made there.

Pat was a member of the Church of the Resurrection of Hancock, Portage Lake Golf Course, and the Knights of the Roundtable.

He was a well known avid golfer, golfing in the Thursday night Portage Lake Men’s Golf League. He enjoyed being on the course with his buddies, especially with Don Morin, his golf partner for 43 years.

Pat loved his family. His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, having all of the family together. His grandkids were the “light of his life”. Pat was patient, kind and very understanding always offering great life advice to everyone, especially his family. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents, Pat was also preceded in death by a brother, Daniel; and his family who raised him, his aunt, Margaret Ross; uncle, Ed Ross; and aunt, Mary Kelly; sister-in-law, Paula Secord; and brother-in-law, David Secord.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; children and grandchildren, Caitlin (Josh) Van Straten and their children, Rylan and Rosalie; Mario (Jennifer) Paoli and their children, Luciano, Viviana, Mariella and Gianetta; Heidi (Keith) Ek and son, Isaiah Little; Monica Paoli (Mick Hagwell) and her children, Brendan and Rylie Erickson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ken and Josie Secord; three sisters-in-law, Patti Buckmaster, Karie (Randy) Hudson and JoAnne (John) Schmidt; cousins, Donald and Grant Ross; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to UP Health System Home Care and Hospice Team and Dr. Kinzel for their compassion and care given to Pat.
