Patricia Rae (James) Hocking-Nettell-Laux, 66, a resident of Alston, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at UP Health System – Marquette following a short illness.
She was born on May 6, 1957, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Gerald and Ellen (Beiswanger) Hocking. Patricia was raised in Hancock and was a graduate of the Hancock High School before attending Michigan Technological University.
Patricia was united in marriage to Butch Nettell and the couple had three children before parting as friends. On June 30, 2001, she was united in marriage to James Laux. The couple have resided in Alston since that time.
Mrs. Laux had worked at K-Mart and Walmart before working in the payroll department at Portage View Hospital. Patricia then began a career working as a teacher’s Aide and Substitute Teacher for the L’Anse Public Schools and Baraga Public Schools until her retirement.
Patti loved to work on different crafting projects such as drawing and painting. She also enjoyed cooking, berry picking, fishing and spending time with her family and friends.

Stephanie (Roger) Strack of Trimountain
Kristie (Brandon VanAcker) of Gwinn
23 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren
Her brothers: Robert (Jane) Hocking of Marshfield, WI
Michael Hocking of Hancock
Her sister: Geraldine (Burt Hautala) Hocking a resident patient of the Canal View – Houghton County
A special aunt: Kay Latvala of Dollar Bay

A memorial service for Patricia will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Mt. View Chapel of South Range with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
Friends may call on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 9:30 am until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Mt. View Chapel of South Range.
