Obituary: Patricia Hill

In loving memory of Patricia (Pat) Hill

Born November 2, 1934 in Ahmeek, MI.

Passed October 14, 2023 at the Omega House in Houghton, MI.

After a short illness, Pat Hill passed away, with her family at her side, in Hospice care at the age of 88.

She was very loved and will terribly be missed.

Pat graduated from Calumet High School Class of 1952.  

In April, 1955 she married Earl L. Kaurala of Osceola, MI.  They ended up settling in Ahmeek Location where they raised their 2 children Patti and Randy.  In November, 1979, Pat lost Earl to cancer.

In May, 1985 Pat married Robert (Bob) Hill of Ontonagon.  They resided at Ft. Wilkins State Park in Copper Harbor, MI until Bob’s retirement in 1997.  They then spent their summers at the camp in Agate Harbor and winters in Ontonagon.

Pat retired from Farmers & Merchants Mutual Fire Insurance Co. after 25 years of employment.  She also served 19 years on the Board of Directors.

Pat was a member of the Ontonagon Eagles Auxiliary and life member of the VFW Auxiliary in Ontonagon.

Pat lived her life to the fullest.  She was an avid walker, cross-country skier and road cyclist.  Her passion led her to compete throughout the UP winning numerous races in her age class and receiving a variety of awards.  She had a beautiful display case and rack to proudly show her medals, mugs, ribbons, etc. 

Pat enjoyed crafting and participated in many craft fairs.  She could make just about anything.  She was skilled at sewing as well.  

For enjoyment Pat liked to visit the casino’s.  She especially enjoyed meeting her daughter in Las Vegas for their annual trips.  

Pat was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Jean Nelson; her two sisters Marilyn Carlson and Sharon Nault and by her beloved son Randy E. Kaurala.

She is survived by her husband Bob; daughter Patti (John Craig) of Astoria, OR; two Step-Grandchildren Noah and Adam Craig; one Sister-in-law Denise Salko and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, MI on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 1 pm.

Following the service, Interment of ashes will take place at the Ahmeek Calvary Cemetery.
