Patricia Shimandle, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on May 24, 2020.
Patricia was born on July 10, 1933 in Osceola, Michigan to Joseph and Anna Shimandle. She graduated from Calumet High School and Suomi College. She married James Probstfeld (Lake Linden) and they resided in upper and lower Michigan due to Jim’s job with General Motors Acceptance Corporation. Pat worked at the Michigan Secretary of State in lower Michigan as well the State of Michigan Upper Peninsula Migrant Education Program. Her role was to support high quality comprehensive educational programming for migratory children in the Upper Peninsula.
Upon Jim’s retirement, they moved to Chassell where they spent many years together boating, fishing, exploring and spending time with family at their lakehouse property. Pat was an extremely talented and accomplished knitter and crocheter. She was also an avid gardener, enjoyed her knitting club, and was fortunate to spend many wonderful summers and spectacular winters on her waterfront property with her husband and family.
She is survived by her children, Jan Boden (Peter) of Lake Zurich, Ill. grandchildren Kristen (Casey) Williams and Margaret (Stefan) Hogle; Jon (Barbara) of Naperville, Ill., grandchild Robert; Michael (Paula) of White Lake, Mich., grandchildren Derek (Stephanie), James (Megan) and Angela (Lajos) Budai . She is also survived by her sister, Carol Oshesky, Bremerton, Washington, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James, siblings Joe Shimandle, James Shimandle, sister Joanne Kehoe and both of her parents.
Pat’s family would like to give a special thanks to all of her caretakers over the past many years and especially the staff at the Norlite facility in Marquette, Michigan.
A private family visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 6:00 p.m. at Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden, Michigan. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lake Linden, Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service and interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden, Michigan.
