As received from the Jacobson Funeral Home:
Patricia Ann Carmody, age 77 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI.
She was born February 26, 1943 in Detroit, MI, daughter of Robert and Helen (Vine) Riopelle. Pat graduated from L’Anse High School in 1960. She then earned a bachelors in social work from Albion College where she graduated with honors in 1964. While at Albion College she was President of her sorority, Delta Zeta, and was also on the Homecoming Court. Pat married Pete Carmody in December of 1964 at the L’Anse United Methodist Church.
After college she worked for the Friend of the Court in Ann Arbor, helping abused women and children. She also held jobs at Commercial National Bank and as a social worker in Baraga County with the Wrap Around Program. Pat was the President of the Woman’s Auxiliary for the wives of the medical students at the University of Michigan.
Pat was a woman of strong faith. She was very active in the L’Anse United Methodist Church. She was the church treasurer for 35 years. Pat was the Chair of Staff for the Parish Committee, and held an officer position at the District level in the United Methodist Woman’s Church for many years.
Pat’s most important job, of which she was most proud, was as a stay at home mom. She spent years in an ice rink as a hockey mom and a figure skating mom. Nothing brought her more joy than her children. She lived for her kids. Every single one of her children considered her their best friend. She was the most supportive and loving Mother and Grandmother (Nana) one could have.
Her hobbies included gardening, quilting, knitting, and she was a voracious reader. She loved to laugh with friends and family. She had a Saturday morning breakfast club of women that she held close to her heart. She was famous for her fudge, homemade carrot cake, and wild blueberry pie.
Surviving are her husband Dr. Peter Emil Carmody of L’Anse; her children and grandchildren, Dr. Robert Emil Carmody of Traverse City, MI and his children Meg and Eryn Carmody; Dr. Michael William (Nadine) Carmody of Camarillo, CA and their son John Moustis; Dr. Ronald James (Susan) Carmody of L’Anse and their children Edward, Thomas, and Amelia Carmody; Kathleen Helen Carmody (Greg Ekdahl) of Ada, MI and their children Anna, Jack, and Adam Ekdahl.
Preceding her in death are her parents.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 23rd from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. People are asked to wear masks and abide with social distancing. Her funeral service will be private for her family on Saturday at the L’Anse United Methodist Church with Rev. Nathan Reed and Rev. John Henry officiating. Burial will be in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials in Mrs. Carmody’s honor to the United Methodist Church of L’Anse.
