Obituary: Pamela C. Long

Pamela left this earth on July 2, 2022. She was born In Mass, MI to E. Russell and Clarice Baullinger on April 28, 1947, graduated from Mass High School in 1965, and attended Michigan Technological University.

She moved to Boston, MA, in 1968 and in 1972, Pamela married John G. Long in Boston and was divorced 3 years later although they remained close friends for many years until his death in 2010. Pamela spent 23 years in the Boston area working in various fields of medical research. Her last position there was Director of U.S. Clinical Research for Serono Laboratories. In 1991 she returned to the U.P. and worked as a Lab Supervisor in the Chemistry Department for Michigan Tech for 13 years.

Pamela was active in her ELCA Lutheran community attending Lay School classes and serving in various capacities in her congregation, Grace Lutheran Church in South Range. At the request of then Bishop Thomas Skrenes she became a Licensed Lay Minister and was installed as Lay Minister at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga where she served for 3 years before retiring in 2012. She also served the Northern Great Lakes Synod on the synod council and as its Vice President.

Pamela spent many long hours in the fitness center on the treadmill and using weight training to build strength. She loved being in the outdoors, exploring forests and Lake Superior coast line in the U.P. She was also a voracious reader in a wide range of topics, but particularly enjoyed detective and crime fiction.

She is survived by her sister and best friend, Wendy (Dave) Hoffman of Ontonagon, her niece, Lacey (Nate) Hoffman, and her great nephew, Nash Hoffman of Marquette

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30am on July 30, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church in South Range with Rev. Micah Cavaleri to officiate. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church in South Range.
