Norma Elvie (Mackey) Brusso, age 86, passed away peacefully at the Omega House in Houghton on Tuesday, December 15. She was born October 28, 1934 in Laurium to Arvo “Butler” and Elma (Moilanen) Mackey. She attended Calumet Schools and graduated from Calumet High School in the Class of 1951.
She married Donald Brusso on December 29, 1956, and resided in Florida Location.
After attending Suomi College, she worked as a secretary for C&H Mining Company. After starting a family, she was a stay-at-home mom for several years. She later worked in retail, and then retired in 1989 from the State of Michigan after working for the Michigan Employment Security Commission, aka “the unemployment office”, in Calumet, and then the Department of Social Services in Hancock. Following her retirement, Norma enjoyed travelling with her husband, especially to see her grandchildren.
Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, sons Jay and Jeff, and granddaughter Jamie. She is survived by her sister Melania (Nizio) Rourk of Farmington Hts, Michigan; brother Steve Nizio of Genoa, Ohio; daughter Janice Arten of Florida Location; son Jim (Kathleen) of Clearwater, Minnesota, granddaughters Crystal (Daniel) Keller of Jacksonville, Florida; Angie (Nathan) Scott of Dunedin, Florida; Tristram Hokenson of Bozeman, Montana; Vitaliy and Nikita Brusso of Clearwater, Minnesota; and great grandchildren Lilah and Ollie Keller and Aria Sever; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Service is scheduled for Monday, December 21st at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Lundquist to officiate. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 p..m. to 7 p.m. at the Ryan Funeral Home. Spring burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
