Obituary: Nancylu Arola

Nancylu (Olds) Arola, 85, a resident of Stanton Township passed away peacefully at Omega House on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
She was born October 21, 1938 to William and Lorraine (Anderson) Olds in Laurium. Nancy attended the local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1956. 
On August 27, 1960 she married Rodger Arola in Calumet.  She was employed for 8 years as a receptionist at Northland Studio Photography in Calumet and later worked 5 years at Schmidt’s Corner Grocery Store on the Houghton Canal Road.
Nancy enjoyed dancing with Rodger, traveling with him to various places during Rodger’s working career that also included living 15 months in Sweden. 
Preceding her in death were her parents, Rodger and Nancy’s pet dog Impi, and later husband Rodger on December 19, 2021.
Nancy is survived by her brother Gary (Gale) Olds of O’Fallon, IL , two nieces and one nephew: Kristen (Brad) Oster, Greta (Jason) Bohnenstiehl, Benjamin (Brianne) Olds along with their children Abigail and Alexis Oster, Alex and Carter Bohnenstiehl and Penelope and Leni Olds, along with several cousins.
Per Nancy’s request cremation has taken place and a private graveside service at Lake View Cemetery will be held.  Nancy loved animals and she will be missed by many, many chipmunks she fed daily.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be sent to the Copper Country Humane Society in Nancy’s memory.
Nancy would like to thank her family, her very special lifelong friends, and her neighbors for their assistance and support over the years.  The family would also like to thank the caring staff of both the Portage View Health System of Hancock and of the Omega House in Houghton.
