Nancy Dean McCabe of Laurium, Michigan passed away peacefully on August 2, 2019.
Nancy was born in Laurium, Michigan on April 11, 1925 to Milton and Marion (Stannard) Wiggins. She met her future husband Glenn in Calumet High School and they married when he returned from serving in World War II. Nancy lived and worked in the Keweenaw Peninsula, loving its beauty, natural wonder and friendships. As a lifelong artist, the Keweenaw provided her with endless inspiration.
Nancy earned her bachelor’s degree in Art Education at Northern Michigan Teachers College in the 40’s and spent her life teaching and creating art in its many forms, including watercolor and fused glass. She had many affiliations but most notable were her memberships in the Calumet Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Copper Country Associated Artists, actively participating in each for over 60 years.
Nancy is survived by her children Susan McCabe, Sherrie McCabe, Cindy (McCabe) Naumann and Jim McCabe, son-in-law David Naumann, sister Bonnie (MacLean) Boutin, brother Sandy MacLean and granddaughter Abigail McCabe.
There will be a funeral service on Thursday, August 8 at 1:00 P.M. at the Calumet United Methodist Church, followed by fellowship, coffee and dessert; some of Nancy’s favorite things!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Calumet United Methodist Women or to Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly.
