Obituary: Mildred M. “Millie” Hill

Mildred M. “Millie” Hill, age 90, of Baraga, Michigan died on March 30, 2018 at Bayside Village in L’Anse, MI. She was born in Pelkie, MI on December 23, 1927, daughter of the late John and Anna (Kokko) Pesonen. Millie graduated from Baraga High School in 1945. She married Melvin Hill in Calumet, MI on October 6, 1946. He preceded her in death on December 12, 2013. Millie was a member of the Mission United Lutheran Church of Pelkie and Red Hats of Alston. She was always a hard worker, starting out working at the Pelkie Co-op, while in high school. Millie spent many years employed at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in the kitchen, cooking and baking. Her bread was requested often by many of the doctors. She always loved to bake and made the best pasties, dinner rolls, and bread. Along with cooking and baking, Millie loved spending time with her family, going to Red Hats, walking, and doing puzzles, crosswords and word searches.

Millie is survived by her daughters, Doris (John) Morrison of Brimley, MI, and Brenda (Bill) Sterbenz of Baraga, MI, daughter-in-law, Virginia Hill of Newport Beach, Ca, grandchildren, Jennifer Collins, Kara VanderMeer, Andy (Nicky) Morrison, Kyle, Randall, and Kevin Hill and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, James (Clarice) Pesonen, and Norman (Doris) Peosnen and brother-in-law, Brent (Helen) Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, son Tom, daughter Nancy, grandson Billy, and 3 sisters, and 5 brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie, MI at 11:00 am with visitation an hour before the service. Reverend John Ansell will be officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately following the funeral service at the church.

Spring interment will take place at the Pelkie Cemetery, Pelkie, MI.
