Obituary: Mildred Irene Klingkammer

PAINESDALE

Mildred Irene (Maki) Klingkammer, 88, of Painesdale, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 8 at UPHS Portage, after a brief illness.

She was born in Elo, Michigan, on March 4, 1930, to John and Elina (Tamminen) Maki. She attended Doelle School, but later graduated from Jeffers High School.

Mildred raised seven children in Northville, Michigan, with her husband Leonard, until they divorced and she relocated to Painesdale, Michigan, with their children in 1971. Later, she worked in home health care and as a housemother in Colorado, California, and Michigan.

She enjoyed watching birds and animals in her flower gardens with her son, Peter, and their cats, Francesca and Sereno; car rides, often to her old homestead in Elo or Lake Superior; and a good pizza or pasty.

Mildred is survived by two sons, Peter Roqix, her primary care giver, of Painesdale, and Charles of Calumet; four daughters, Kathy (Chris) Creviston of Missouri, Karen (Charles) Mattfolk of Dollar Bay, Mary (Thomas) Buckeyne of Nevada, Barbara of Missouri; seven grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Lewis of Lexington, Oklahoma, and Sylvia Maki of Pasadena, California; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Armi and Eddie Maki; her sweet, young, daughter Beverly; ex-husband, Leonard; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at UPHS, Portage, for their kindness and caring during Mildred’s brief stay at the hospital, the home care staff at UPHS Home Care, Senior Meals and Community Action Agency, and the volunteers of Little Brother’s.

Following cremation, a private family memorial service will be held.

Antila Funeral Service of Hancock is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be shared online at antilafuneral.com and cards of sympathy may be sent directly to the family.
