Obituary: Michael Zulinski

Michael (Mike/Mike Zee) Zulinski passed away at the age of 37 from an apparent heart attack on January 11, 2023, at his home in Hancock, Michigan.

He attended Houghton Elementary and Woodland Elementary in Kingsford. He returned to Houghton and graduated from Houghton High School in 2004. After graduation, he attended Finlandia University for two years and MATC in Madison, Wisconsin.

He worked at various jobs over the years from food service, insurance sales, and most in the telemarketing/surveying field. Michael was a talented musician, having performed locally in years past. His accomplishments included the acoustic guitar, harmonicas, and keyboards through much diligence having been mostly self-taught. In addition to his love of music, Michael was an avid reader and researcher. His library contained over 300 volumes including European and American political history, to world religions and philosophy. He was particularly well-versed in the history and practices of the Catholic church. He also acquired a substantial collection of works by his favorite authors Ferdinand Celine and Gunter Grass. One of his passions was ancestral research, compiling and translating a vast amount of material regarding family from Poland which he shared.

He is survived by his parents, mother Jean Plummer (Dale) of Norway, his father Bob Zulinski (Paula) of Hancock, stepsiblings Angie Kobow (Mike), Will Plummer, Greg Kallungi (Kelly), Anders Kallungi, Gabe Kallungi and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service for Mike will be held at 11am, Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock. Visitation will take place from 10am until the time of services at the funeral home.

Because Michael was an ardent dog lover, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers, those inclined make donations to the Copper Country Humane Society.
