Obituary: Michael Kivela

As received from the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home:

On Sunday October 31, 2021, we lost a wonderfully kind and loving son, brother, dad, and dear friend.

Mike was born on December 9, 1979, and grew up near lake linden MI, where he attended Lake Linden- Hubbell Public Schools and graduated in 1998. During his time at Lake Linden- Mike greatly enjoyed watching and playing football. He helped to bring the Lake Linden- Hubbell “Lakes” football team to the state finals three years in a row (’95-’97), and even became the Michigan Class D high school football state champions in 1997.

After high school Mike attended Northern Michigan University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2002. Mike then moved to Illinois and pursued a career with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), where he worked for over 15 years. During his time with TSA- Mike worked various positions in security within three different airports in Illinois, before eventually getting promoted to a regional manager.

In 2006, Mike was married to Stacy Kramer, and they had two children together (Maximus Thomas Kivela and Morgan Jane Kivela). Mike loved spending time and doing different activities with his children. They were always his number 1 priority.

In his free time- Mike enjoyed watching sports, listening to music, being in the outdoors and spending time with friends and family. Mike was absolutely a “people -person”. He was amazing at starting conversations and truly taking an interest in what others were talking about. Mike was the life of the party, and everyone greatly enjoyed being around him. He also had a big heart and was willing to help anyone in need. Mike was a genuinely good guy and will be deeply missed by everyone that he knew.

Mike is preceded in death by all his grandparents and his uncle Dan Strzyzykowski.

Mike is survived by his parents, Vicki and Mark Kivela, and Michael and Charlene Strzyzykowski, Son Maximus Kivela, daughter Morgan Kivela, brother Erik Kivela and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday November 6, 2021 at 5:00 pm at Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home with Pastor Jared Howard to officiate.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm- 5:00 pm on Saturday at the Funeral Home.
