As received from the Pearce Funeral Home:
UPDATE: The Copper Country Veterans Association will conduct graveside military rites at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 2 at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
Michael K. Holzberger, 77, of Bootjack passed away at UP Health Systems Marquette on April 8, 2023 after a brief illness.
Mike was born in Calumet, Michigan on August 3, 1945 to Kenneth and Elizabeth (Bonifas) Holzberger. He attended Lake Linden Hubbell Schools for his entire schooling career, graduating in 1963. He served six years in the Navy (1965-1971) on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La. In 1971, after an honorable discharge, Mike started working for a local cable company. In 1976, he began at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City school, where he was the transportation and maintenance director. He played many roles – bus driver, custodian, maintenance person, and all around Mr. Fix It. “Berger” was well known and well remembered by many DBTC students. He retired in 2009.
In his younger days, Mike loved the water, boating on his family’s Chris-Craft and water skiing everywhere they went (or so his family says). If you knew Mike, you can probably think of a story or two about him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sons, Todd Holzberger of Lake Linden, Derek Holzberger of Bootjack, Chad (Courtney) Holzberger of Bootjack; his grandchildren Cruz Holzberger, Mason Holzberger, Elizabeth Holzberger, and Vivienne Holzberger; his sister, Kathleen (Paul) Grahek of Escanaba, and his niece, Melissa Grahek.
In accordance with Mike’s wishes, no services will be held. The Pearce Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of one’s choice in honor of Mike.
