Obituary: Michael John Massoglia

Michael John Massoglia, 71, of Calumet passed away on April 6th, 2023, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay Where he had been a patient for 3 days. 

He was born on March 1st, 1952, a son of John and Ann (Butkovich) Massoglia. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Jack, Dennis, and Dave, and 3 sisters Shirley, Maggie, and Dorothy. 

He was a 1970 graduate of Calumet Highschool. After school, he went to work at Thurner’s Bakery with his grandpa, John Butkovich. He also loved fishing and hunting with him. He also liked going to the casino. 

On July 5, 1975, he married the love of his life, Noel Koski at Sacred Heart Church in Calumet. After Thurner’s, he went to work for the White Pine Copper Company until a shutdown happened. He then returned to his baking skills, working for (then) SuperValu in Lake Linden, where he became the head baker until his retirement. Being bored with retirement, he went back to baking at Toni’s Country Kitchen. He was also a member of the Sacred Heart Church. 

He is survived by his wife, Noel, their 2 sons, Christopher Massoglia of Laurium, and Adam Massoglia of Calumet, a brother, Bob of Kalamazoo, his special god-son Joe Massoglia, sister-in-law Heidi (Ray) Gervais of Laurium, his special Aunt Barbra Kinnunen of Calumet, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Funeral mass for Mike will be held at the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, April 14th at 11:30 am with Father Gracious Pulimoottil officiating. Friends may call at the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral home on Friday, April 14th from 9:00-11:00 am.
