Michael J. Yambor, 73, a resident of Fisherman’s Lane, Chassell, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023, at his home following a battle with cancer.
He was born on December 20, 1949, in Highland Park, Michigan, a son of the late Steven and Elmi (Kinnunen) Yambor. Michael was raised in Detroit and was a graduate of Cass Tech High School with the class of 1968. He then attended Wayne State University before graduating from Michigan Technological University with a degree in Forestry.
On September 11, 1971, he was united in marriage to the former Deborah Kahn. The couple had resided in Detroit, Berkley, MI, and Farmington Hill, MI and enjoyed spending as much time as he could at his favorite place on Fisherman’s Lane. Michael enjoyed spending time in the Copper Country as a child which continued throughout his life.
Mr. Yambor had owned and operated Michael J. Yambor and Associates for 35 years retiring in 2020. He was active with the various organizations and groups in his field over the years. He enjoyed time in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and shooting. He was a talented and gifted person in many ways from building sailboats to working on Stain Glass projects.

His grandchildren: Max Hobbs, Isaac Hobbs, Hannah Harvey
His step-granddaughter: Ava Kenski
His brother: Steven (Joy) Yambor of Horton, MI
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
A memorial service for Michael will be held 11:00 am Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Soren Schmidt to officiate. Burial will be in the Elo Cemetery.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests the memorial contributions be given to the American Cancer Society, the Parkinson’s Association or the Copper Country Humane Society in memory of Michael Yambor.
