Hancock: Michael J. Shanahan, 65, former Hancock Jewelery Store business owner, died on Monday, May 14, 2018 at U.P. Health System Portage Hospital.
Mike was born on November 28, 1952 in Grand Rapids, a son of the late Leo J. and Ardith E. (Stobacha) Shanahan. He graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School, and later earned his B.S. Degree in Business from Ferris State University.
Mike came to the Copper Country to operate the local Zales Jewelery Store in the Copper Country Mall and later owned his own business, Special Occasions, at the mall. He later purchased Miller’s Jewelery Store in Hancock, operating that business until he retired.
Mike was an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed all sports related to the state of Michigan.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Richard Arsulowicz, Sr.
He is survived by his sons, Phillip of Marquette and Ryan of Hancock; the mother of his children, Jane of Hancock; a brother, David of Hancock; sisters Patti Arsulowicz, Christine Shanahan, Deborah (Scott) Sobolewski, Kelly (Tim) Carey, and Mary Cantolla; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 7 P.M. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Pastor Paul Marin to officiate. There will be no visitation.
