Michael Herbert Welsh, age 43 of Baraga, MI passed away on Friday, April 1st, 2022 at U.P. Health System Marquette, MI with his family by his side.
He was born May 16, 1978 in L’Anse, MI son of Hebert Hawkshield and Brenda Lou (Chosa) Welsh. Michael attended school at the ISD and then attended the Copper Country Mental Health Day Program.
Michael enjoyed life and was greatly loved by his family and all who knew him. He enjoyed playing UNO, puzzles, music, dancing at the Pow Wow, watching the Golden Girls & Maude, and taking drives every evening. He was an enrolled Keweenaw Bay Indian Community tribal member and he was affiliated with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
Surviving are his mother Brenda Lou Welsh of Baraga; siblings, Ronald Eugene Welsh of Hancock, MI, Bryan Joseph Welsh and Isabelle Helene Welsh both of Baraga; nieces and nephews, Sierra Chelsea, Nathaniel Bryan Hawkshield, Cheyenne Dylan; Sister-in-law Jimi Koko; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Herbert.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 6th from 10-11:00 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. with Jim and Faith Chosa, Ministers of the Gospel will officiate. Fellowship will follow at the funeral home. Burial will be in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
