Obituary: Michael Este

As received from the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home:

Michael Eric Este, 65, of Dollar Bay, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at U.P. Health System-Portage after a short illness.

He was born in Hancock on June 2, 1956, attending Dollar Bay Schools and graduating in 1974. This is where he met his wife of 45 years, Patti Isaacson. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 27, 1974. While enlisted, he was trained to be an airplane mechanic as a Captain.

During his time in the Marines, he married Patti on June 19, 1976. Following his honorable discharge from the Marines on June 26, 1978, he then joined the U.S. Air Force on June 30, 1978, keeping the same type of job he had in the Marines. During this time their first son, Jeremy was born in October of 1981.

On August 10, 1983 Mike was honorably discharged from the Air Force and he moved his family back to Dollar Bay, buying the first house for their family. In December of 1986 their son Adam was born and their family was complete. In 1988 Mike began his employment at Horner Flooring, retiring in 2018.

He will be remembered by many for his stories, shows, stupid but funny sayings, although he will always be our husband, dad, grandpa, friend and someone that was always there.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rachael in 1994 and Eric in 2000, and by his in-laws, Roy and Verne Isaacson.

He is survived by his wife, Patti Este (Isaacson); his sons Jeremy (Nichole) and Adam (Natalie); 4 grandchildren: Keela, Keegan, Haylie, and Aleena; his sister Dianne Vasallo of Hancock; and by numerous nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws, and brother-in-laws. He is also survived by friends, including Bob and Carol Riehle, his Saturday drinking buddy, Gregg Pelto, and by his faithful dog companion, Hannah.

A celebration of life will take place in the spring.
