Obituary: Matthew J. Nyland

Matthew J. Nyland, 50, a resident of Hancock passed away Thursday morning August 22, 2024, from injuries received in an accident.

He was born on May 21,1974, in Oak Lawn, IL, a son of the late Michael and Patricia (Roma) Nyland. As a child Matt moved to Quincy Hill where he was raised by his mother and step father. Matt was a graduate of Hancock High School with the class of 1992. Following High School, He moved to Arizona where he worked as an Information Technology specialist. He returned to the area for a short time and was a member of the Quincy Franklin Volunteer Fire Department. He returned to Arizona where he met his future wife Falon McCoin.

Since August of 2017, the couple has made their home in Hancock. In June of 2020, Falon and Matt were united in marriage. Locally Mr. Nyland had worked for Superior National Bank and Calumet Electronics as an IT Specialist and currently was part owner of Jen’s Kitchen in Calumet.

Matt loved the outdoors and many interests. His adventurous personality included hunting, fishing, side-by-side and snowmobile riding, boating, traveling, camping and cooking. He always lit up a room and everybody knew when he walked in with his smile and was always ready to tell a joke or story at any given time. Matt was always ready to lend a helping hand and was a proud member of the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department.

Preceding him in death were his parents and stepfather Dennis Balma.

Surviving are: His wife Falon Nyland of Hancock,MI His son: Julian Nyland of Concord, CA His step-daughter: Payton Wilson of Mesa, AZ His step-son from a previous marriage: Justin Hartless of Concord, CA Several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends and extended family members.

A time to remember Matt and celebrate his life will be held Monday, August 26, 2024, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Hancock Chapel from 4 to 7:00 pm Any donations to Matt’s go fund me page or The Superior National Bank – Nyland Fund would be greatly appreciated by all.
