Obituary: Mary M. Hatcher

Ripley 

     Mary M. Hatcher, 77, a resident of Ripley passed away Sunday February 24, 2019, at the Franklin House of Portage Pointe in Hancock following a short illness.

     She was born on April 5, 1941, in Laurium, MI, a daughter of the late John B. and Margaret (Lehman) Herres.  Mary was raised in Hancock and was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1959.

     Mary worked for Michigan Bell for a short time.  In 1960, she was united in marriage to Richard W. Nielsen.  The couple raised two sons and parted ways in 1974.  In 1976, she was united in marriage to Ronald G. Hatcher.  The couple resided in Kenosha, WI, where she worked as a home health aide for a short time.  In 2008 they moved to make their home in Ripley.

     Mrs. Hatcher was an active member of Church of the Resurrection in Hancock where she helped with the food pantry and did other volunteer work.  She enjoyed reading People Magazines, working on puzzles, and taking care of cats; her own and strays.

     Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Ronald, her grandson Jonathan and her little peanut this past December.

     Surviving are: 

          Her sons: Richard (Elizabeth) Nielsen of Springfield, VA

                         John (Lisa) Nielsen of Virginia Beach, VA

          Her grandchildren: Joseph (Annie), Robert, April, Kathryn, Sara (Paul) and Amber (Kevin)

          Her brother and sister:

               John (Barbara) Herres of Hancock 

               Barbara C. Herres of Hancock

          Her great grandchildren: Michael, Adam, Jaxon and Emma

          Her nieces and nephews: 

       Julie (Brian), Michael (Kelly), Jeri Lynn (Dean), Dan, Jerry (Holly) 

     Several great nieces, great nephews, cousins and a great great niece and a great great nephew.

     A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be held 11 am Thursday February 28, 2019, at the Church of the Resurrection with Fr. William Ssozi to officiate.  Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

     Friends may call on Thursday February 28, 2019, from 10 am until time of services at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock.

     In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to the Copper Country Humane Society in memory of Mary Hatcher.
