Obituary: Mary Lou Phillippi

Mary Lou Phillippi, 67, of Houghton, passed away early Saturday morning, April 17, 2021, at UP Health System-Portage.

Mary Lou was born March 28, 1954, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Orlando and Priscilla (Sweet) Phillippi. She was raised in South Range and was a 1972 graduate of the Jeffers High School.

Mary Lou was employed at Copper Country Mental Health as a caregiver, working for 17 years at the Stepping Stone group home in Houghton, where she provided her clients with loving tender care.

Mary Lou was a member of the Church of the Resurrection of Hancock.

Family meant everything to Mary Lou. Her six grandchildren were the love of her life. In her spare time she enjoyed flower gardening. She had an adventurous way about her and was a fighter, never giving up.

Mary Lou is survived by a daughter, Nicole (Allen) Macon of Crowley, Texas; a son, Travis (Jennifer) Aho of Hancock; six grandchildren, Dre, Emoni and Emanuel Macon; Necee, Azura and Holden Aho; a sister, Kathy Bonini of South Range; nephews, Brady Bonini and Cody (Bobbi Jo) Bonini of South Range; a great-nephew, Bennett Bonini; as well as several other nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Besides her parents, Mary Lou was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bob Bonini.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock, with Fr. William Ssozi as celebrant. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the mass on Friday at the church. The mass will be live streamed and can be accessed by going to the Church of the Resurrection Facebook page for 11 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Antila Funeral Service, Inc. of Hancock.
