Obituary: Mary Lou Leiker

Mary Lou (Moyle Lepisto) Leiker, 81, a resident of Bootjack passed away on Thursday March 12, 2020 at Omega House in Houghton.

She was born on December 15, 1938 in Laurium, a daughter of the late David and Lucille (Michel) Moyle.

Mary graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1956 and later received her bachelors’ degree from Michigan State University.

On June 13, 1964, she was united in marriage to Ronald Lepisto and he preceded her in death on May 14, 1977. She later was united in marriage to Benjamin Leiker on November 9, 1991.

Mary started her career as a home economics teacher at the White Pine High School. She also worked at the Quality Food Stores, Edward Jones and as a Michigan State extension agent. She returned to teaching home economics and retired from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1999.

Mary enjoyed craft work, baking, cooking and her flower beds. Mary enjoyed traveling and attending her grandchildren’s sporting and school events.

She loved the time she spent with her family and friends, especially at the camp.

She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Hubbell, Young Moderns women’s club and Michigan State University Alumni Association.

Preceding her in death was her first husband Ronald Lepisto, Sister: Merle Audette. Brothers: Thomas Moyle, David “Jocko” Moyle, Don Moyle and Gordy Moyle.

Surviving are: her husband Ben Leiker of Bootjack

Daughter: Connie (Jim) Peterman of De Pere, WI

Sons: Gregg (Denise) Lepisto of Bootjack and Gordy (Kris) Lepisto of Menominee Falls, WI

Grandchildren: Abbey Lepisto, Laura Peterman, Natalie Lepisto, Tara Lepisto, Jacob Peterman, Kali Lepisto, Sam Peterman and TJ Lepisto.

Sisters: Alice Ziemnick of Bootjack, Janet (Mike) Dudenis of Eagle River, Margaret (Vern) Axford of Bootjack and sisters-in-law Ethel Moyle of Laurium and MaryRose Moyle of Negaunee

Step Children: Katherine (Robert) Rubich of Champlin, MN, Deborah (Scott) Asher of Boss, MO, Elizabeth (Scott) Wigger of Sobieski, WI and Benjamin (Jacqueline) Leiker of Norway, MI.

Step grandchildren: Andrew (Stephanie) Rubich, Chris (Nickey) Rubich, Kimberly (Jeremy) Walzier, Kirsten (Kurt) Hendrick, Rebekah (Colby) Payne, Elizabeth Payne, Jessica Verille, Jacqueline Verille, Danielle Verille, Katherine Leiker and Gabrielle Leiker.

Visitation will be held on Sunday March 15, 2020 from 4-7 PM in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet and one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Monday March 16, 2020 at 11:00am in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Rev. Bryan Lundquist to officiate.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
