Obituary: Mary King Boutwell

As received from the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home:

Mary King Boutwell, 74, passed away at her home in Laurium on January 29, 2024.  She was comforted and cared for by her husband, William Boutwell (Bill), and her children and family during her final days.  She will be greatly missed.

Mary was born on June 5, 1949, to Robert and Janet King in Laurium, Michigan.  She attended Calumet High School.

In 1968, Mary and Bill Boutwell were married.  They welcomed three children into their lives, Brett, Brandy and Bart.  Mary and her family called Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota, home for 29 years.  Mary worked at Herberger’s in Virginia, Minnesota, when she was not busy enjoying her kids’ hockey games and school and community activities.  She also enjoyed bridge nights with her friends in Hoyt Lakes and Aurora.  Before moving back to Laurium in 2021 to be closer to family and friends, Mary and Bill lived in Silver Bay and Cohasset, Minnesota, while Bill was working for Minnesota Power.

Mary became a grandmother in 2001.  She and her grandchildren were very close.  Her grandchildren enjoyed spending as much time as possible with Mary playing cards, shopping, going out to eat, and just talking.

Mary spent summers at her family’s cottage in Eagle Harbor where she was surrounded by family and friends.  She enjoyed boat rides with her family, reading in the porch, and all the fun and activities that come along with summers in Eagle Harbor.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Janet King, and her niece, Jessica Lishinski.  Mary is survived by her husband, Bill, children, Brett (Tonia) Boutwell, Brandy (Lynn) Boutwell, and Bart (Heather) Boutwell, four grandchildren, brothers Robert (Susan) P. King and William (Lena) H. King, sister, Ann (Gary) Lishinski, and nieces and nephews.

A family memorial is planned for Summer 2024 in Eagle Harbor, Michigan.
