Obituary: Mary Ann Owens

ATLANTIC MINE — Mary Ann Owens, 73, passed from this life to her eternal life with her Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Atlantic Mine, surrounded by her children after a courageous battle against cancer.

She was born on November 18, 1944, in Troy, New York, to Douglas and Mary “Millie” Bussiere.

In 1945, her parents moved to Ontonagon, where she was raised and graduated high school in 1962.

She married Donald C. Sullivan in Kentucky on August 10, 1966, and they had four children together, raising their family in Rockland. She later married Daniel Owens in 1986.

Mary Ann was a member of Cornerstone Community Church in Iron Mountain; a member of the letter-writing team for the local Women’s Jail Ministry; enjoyed sending birthday cards to the children at the Hillcrest Children’s Home in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and supported the Pacific Garden Missions of Chicago, Illinois. She was most happy loving and giving to others. She truly lived out God’s Word each and every day of her life.

She also enjoyed playing Scrabble, working crossword puzzles, reading books, playing pinochle and smear at the Iron Mountain Senior Center and going to the movies. But what truly brought her the most joy was spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who will be missed beyond measure.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, Richard Sullivan; and her husband, Dan.

She is survived by her two daughters, Donna (Bob) McMullen of Atlantic Mine, and Samantha (Bill) Neuens of Kingsford; and son, Kelly (Twila) Sullivan of Peoria, Arizona; a very special step-daughter, Pam (Dean) Schmeltzer of Harvey; brothers, Howard (Linda) Bussiere of Rockland, and Bob Bussiere of Ontonagon; along with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Maranatha Assembly of God, 920 S. Carpenter Ave, Kingsford, on Monday, October 15, 2018, at 11 a.m. [central standard time] with her brother Howard officiating.

Burial will be in the family cemetery plot in Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her honor to Hillcrest Children’s Home, 2325 Malvern Ave, Hot Springs National Park, AR 71901.

The O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock is assisting with the arrangements.
