Marvin W. Usimaki, age 92 of Pelkie, MI passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Mission Point Health Care in Hancock, MI.
He was born July 20, 1929 in Laurium, MI son of Niilo and Aili (Rantanen) Usimaki. Marvin served in the U.S. Army from January 1951 until December of 1952 and was a DAV. In 1962 he purchased the family farm where he raised beef cattle and made hay. He married Mona Fogg Prussak on June 12, 1976. Marvin worked as a welder at Cleveland Cliffs, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Alston Apostolic Lutheran Church, Alston VFW Post 7646, and the NRA. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, logging, tinkering in his shop and inventing things, and restoring antiques.
Surviving are his wife Mona Usimaki of Pelkie; children, Barb (Bob) Smith of Christiansburg, VA, Beth Metsa of Green Bay, WI, Beverly (Jason) Ford of Luxemburg, WI, Robert “Al” (Ariel) Usimaki of Alston, MI, Paul (Nastya) Usimaki of Pulaski, WI, Ryan Usimaki of Pelkie; siblings, Viola (Wayne) Kelber of Hartford, WI, Markley Usimaki of Bruce Crossing, MI, Verna (James) Armstrong of Willow, AK; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; siblings, Vivian, Violet, Victoria, Millard, Melvin; and a granddaughter Kristin.
The family will be planning a memorial service for the end of September. Burial will be in the Alston Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
