Obituary: Marvin “Mike” Anderson

Marvin “Mike” Anderson, 91, a resident of Boston Location passed away Thursday, August 10, 20223, at this home.     

 He was born on March 25, 1932, in Liminga, a son of the late Hjalmer and Hilda (Seppala) Anderson.  Marvin was raised in Liminga, attended the Redridge School and graduated from the Houghton High School with the class of 1950.      

Mr. Anderson was a veteran having served with the United States Army during the Korean War.      

On May 14, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Margaret Moll.  The couple had resided in Hancock before moving to make their home in St. Mary’s Location.  They enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage of the Houghton Canal.           

 Mr. Anderson had worked for various construction companies as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator.  He then owned and operated his own logging company until his retirement.    

  Mike was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton, he enjoyed working in the shop and visiting with family and friends. 

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers and sisters: Melvin (Eleanor) Anderson, Reino Anderson, Mildred (Arthur) Maki, Helen Kinnunen, Louise Erva, Margaret (James) Markham and his stepfather Leo Niemi.      

 Surviving are: His wife: Margaret Anderson; His children: David (Dawn) Anderson, Christine (Mike) Jurmu, Doug (Becky) Anderson, Sara (Jim) Kariniemi, Amy (Ron) Hyrkas, Bette (Marc) Pieti, Bruce (Sarah) Anderson, Nancy (Dave) Peterson,  and Carol (Steve) Pelli; 63 grandchildren; 103 great-grandchildren; His brother-in-law: Peter Kinnunen and Milton Erva; His sister-in-law: Shirley Anderson; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.      

Funeral services for Mike will be held 1:00 pm Monday, August 14, 2023, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with David Taivalkoski to officiate.  Burial will be in the Oskar Cemetery.     

 Friends may call on Monday, August 14, 2023, from 10:00 am until time of services at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.
