HANCOCK – Mark A. Fenili, 61, of Hancock, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Omega House in Houghton.
He was born in Hancock on August 12, 1956, to the late Pasquale and Nancy (Gagnon) Fenili. He graduated in 1974 from Hancock Central High School, where he proudly played on the school’s basketball team.
Shortly after graduation, Mark joined the United States Navy, serving in Italy, the country his father was from. After the Navy, he came back to Hancock to open Marko’s Market, where he sold his family’s famous pizzas. In the mid 1980s, Mark moved to Wisconsin, where he started a family and worked for several years at Eggers Industries, building fireproof and specialty doors. In 2006, he moved back to Hancock.
Mark was a member of the Church of Resurrection and the American Legion Post 291.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents Pasquale and Nancy Fenili.
He is survived by his children, Cassi Fenili of Madison, Wisconsin, Mitchell Fenili of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, his brother, Daniel (Kim) Fenili of Wautaga, Texas, and his sister Amy (Anthony) Wilmers of Hancock. Mark was a proud uncle of Morana (Michael) Carter, Dana Fenili, Amanda (Shaun) Willmert, and his great-nephews and niece Hayden, McKella, Rowan and Lucca.
Mark’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at UP Health System- Portage for the compassionate care they provided him. We would also like to send our sincerest gratitude to all of the staff and volunteers at Omega House, who provided him with an abundance of love and comfort in his final days. We thank you also for being so kind to our family during this difficult time; your kindness means more than words can say.
Mark was always happiest spending time with his family and friends. He was an incredibly proud parent and friend to all. He was such a gentle and kind guy who loved watching sports – especially the Detroit Lions and Tigers – playing golf, bowling, fishing, and playing pool with his friends at the Monte. Mark’s friends meant the world to him, and he was overwhelmed by their outpouring of love over the last few months. He was so appreciative for all they did for him.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock from 4pm – 7pm.
