Mark Christopher Peterson, age 79 of L’Anse, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born May 2, 1945 in Hancock, MI, son of Guy and Ingeborg (Tollefson) Peterson. Mark graduated from L’Anse High School in 1963 and attended Suomi College. He married Bonnie Johnson on October 16, 1976 in Baraga, MI. Mark worked at Cleveland Cliffs Mine for 9 years, then was self employed as a logger until age 40. He then worked for the State of Michigan for 19 years as a correctional officer at Kinross Correctional Facility, Marquette Branch Prison, and then Baraga Maximum Correctional Facility; retiring in 2008. After he retired, Mark worked at the Curwood Park in L’Anse until 2023.
Mark was a social man and enjoyed working, hunting, fishing, trapping, woodworking, and mostly spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife Bonnie Peterson of L’Anse; children, Lisa (Erol) Piskin of Ada, MI, Christine (Tim) Horner of Lowell, MI, Mark “Pete” (Robin) Peterson of Holland, MI, Monica (Jason) Eliason of L’Anse; 11 grandchildren, Ashlyn Eliason of L’Anse, Kyle Ahola (Kylie Bianco) of L’Anse, Faith (Tyler) LaPlante of Skanee, Jason Eliason (Erin Kamarainen) of L’Anse, Hillary Piskin of Ada, MI, Alex (Alyssa) Piskin of Littleton, CO, Gina (Jake) Schmidt of Grand Rapids, MI, Katelyn (Jake) Sochanek of Grand Rapids, Sophia Galan of Lowell, MI, Ally (Alex) Krupiak of Grand Rapids, Grant Horner (Rachel Bredweg) of Grand Rapids, Cassie (Clark) Wilson of Holland, MI, Dustin Peterson of Allegan, MI; great grandchildren, Madison, Braylin, Noah, Ryker, Kailob, Kenzie, Leah, Luka, Isla, Emma, Lyla, Zoey, Everleigh, Opal, Teigan; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Howard and Curtis Peterson.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Julie Belew. A luncheon will follow at the United Lutheran Church in L’Anse. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
