Obituary: Marion Talvensaari

Marion Helen Talvensaari; age 97; 1 month shy of her 98th birthday, went to heaven to be with her departed family and her God on November 23rd. Marion battled cancer for 5 months at the Omega House.

She was born on December 22nd, 1923 in Calumet. She was the daughter of Ole Palmer and Mary Elizabeth (Michaelson) Hoganson. The Family resided in Red Jacket Shaft Location of Calumet. She attended local schools, graduating from Calumet High School, the class of 1942.

On January 16, 1943 she married her teenage sweet-heart Roy Wendal Talvensaari. After Roy’s military service they began their family with Marion being a mother and homemaker. Marion was the mother of three boys and a daughter.

In the mid 60’s at the age of 40 Marion applied and was given a scholarship to NMU for a LPN license-ship. She successfully completed the course and received her LPN license in 67-68. She worked at Calumet Public Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1988 at the age of 65. Marions love of people in the hospital carried into her everyday life.
Marion loved her family, her God, her friends and her Country. This defined who she was for the rest of her life. She had monthly Christian fellowship meetings and the Christian Group at her home until she went to live at the Omega House.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking for her guest and coffee was always available.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; Ole Palmer and Mary Elizabeth Hoganson, brothers; Raymond and Gordon Hoganson; sister, Dorothy Devereau, half sister; Bertha Edwards and half brother; Ben Josephson. Her husband Roy W Talvensaari. Children: Jon Paul Talvensaari, Erick Ole Talvensaari and Mary Elizabeth Talvensaari.

She is survived by her son; David (Joy) Talvensaari of Houghton with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Many Christian friends at her current church, Grace Christian Fellowship and her former church Northwoods Christian Assembly, especially Pastor Ken (Lilian) Toth.

The family will be having a private service at this time due to the covid uptick and risk of the virus spreading.

A Graveside service will be held for Marion on Saturday June 11, 2022, at 12:00 pm, in the Lake View Cemetery.

A luncheon will follow the graveside service at the Siskiwit Reception Hall in Calumet, MI.
