Hubbell: Mario A. Sapino, 65, of Hubbell, passed away at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Hospital, after a short illness, on May 11, 2018.
He was born on July 9, 1952, a son of Lawrence and LaVerna Sapino.
He was a graduate of Calumet High School, where he was a proud participant of the ROTC program. He completed course work at Michigan Tech to become an electrician and later, he earned a CNA certificate from Gogebic Community College. He worked for McCabe Distributing, IGA Foodliner in Hubbell, Al’s General Store in Lake Linden, Keweenaw Academy, and he retired from Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.
He was married to Karen LeBlanc on August 31, 1979.
He was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Dollar Bay.
Mario was a die-hard Packers fan. He was an avid bowler, pinnacle card player; and he loved picnics and moped riding.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-Russel, nephew-Christopher John, and step-mother-Donis.
He is survived by: his wife-Karen; sons-Jason and Scott (Dawn); grandchildren-Elizabeth and Caleb; special little friend-Maizy; brothers-Leslie and Lionel (Laura); sister-Angela (Rick) Daubman; brothers and sisters-in-law-Albert (Debbie) LeBlanc, Paula (Stephen) Rostron, and Marion Lovett; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews who fondly remember him as ”Uncle Fuzzy Face.”
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 17, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Dollar Bay with Fr. William Ssozi to officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 16, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden. Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
