Marilyn I. Gustafson, 78, a resident of Hancock, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024, at Butterworth-Corewell Hospital in Grand Rapids where she had been a patient for the past 12 days.
She was born on January 19, 1946, to the late Otto and Irene (Ruohonen) Ristila in Hancock, MI. She attended Hancock High School until her family relocated to Tamaqua, PA in 1961.
She married her lifelong companion Charles Gustafson on August 11, 1962, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Hancock. The couple resided in various parts of the midwest before returning to make their home in Hancock in 2001.
Marilyn had a servant’s heart. While she worked various positions throughout her life, they all had one thing in common: serving others. If she wasn’t taking care of you, she was serving you with her smile and sense of humor, or an extra helping of her cooking which she enjoyed sharing with all. She always wanted you to leave her table full. Marilyn was an avid golfer that always enjoyed an afternoon on the golf course. She made friends everywhere she went.
Her faith and family were paramount in her life. Marilyn believed that through the trials & triumphs in life Jesus was always by her side.
She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and Great grandmother. She especially loved her role as Nana.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; her brother; Marvin and her sister Joyce LePage.

Her granddaughter: Amanda (Alex) Warnsholz of Ludington, MI
Her great-grandchildren: Willow and Rome.
Her sister: Diane Kitchen of Okemos, MI
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
A funeral service for Marilyn will be held 1:00 pm Friday, March 22, 2024, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Brahm Semmler Smith to officiate. Spring Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock.
Friends may call on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 12 Noon until the time of services at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.
