Obituary: Marilyn Charlotte “Molly” Loonsfoot

Marilyn Charlotte “Molly” Loonsfoot, age 78 of Baraga, MI passed away at her home on Friday, September 27, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born in Baraga, MI on April 10, 1946, the daughter of the late Richard and Sarah (Whetung) Shalifoe. Molly graduated from Baraga High School in 1964. She married Charles A. Loonsfoot, Sr on February 6, 1971. He preceded her in death on October 13, 2021. Molly was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Church, Assinins and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. She had been employed as a Forester for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Molly had enjoyed going to the casino.

Molly is survived by her loving children Jacqueline (Chris) Swartz of Baraga, Marilyn “Molly” Uren of Ontonagon, Dawn (Danny, Sr) Alexander of Baraga, and R.C.,Sr (Kristina) Loonsfoot of Baraga, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, brothers Richard (Gloria) Shalifoe of L’Anse, Matt (Nancy) Shalifoe of Baraga, Ted Shalifoe of Baraga, Fred (Margaret) Shelifoe of Baraga, and Donald Shalifoe of Baraga, sisters Janice Halverson of Ishpeming, and Cecelia Miller of Traverse City. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her infant son, her grandson Michael Uren, her brother Danny Glen Shelafoe, and her sister Ginny Ann Jermac.

Visitation will be on Monday, September 30th starting at 5 p.m. at the Ceremonial Room, Ojibwa Senior’s in Baraga. A traditional funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 1st at 1:00 p.m. in the Ceremonial Room. The burial will be in the Assinins Cemetery. A feast will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Ojibwa Senior’s. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family. Friends may sign Molly’s guest book or send condolences at www.jacobsonfuneralhome.com.
