Obituary: Marilyn A. Manninen

Marilyn A. Manninen 83, a former resident of Chassell, passed away with her family by her side Friday May 8, 2020, at The Lighthouse of Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past five years.

She was born on October 8, 1936, in Detroit, MI, a daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Bartlett) Caston. Marilyn was raised in Highland Park, MI, and was a graduate with the class of 1954 of Central High School in Highland Park.

On April 6, 1957, she was united in marriage to Wesley Manninen. The couple had resided in Chassell, California, Atlantic Mine and since 1975, had made their home on the Chassell Painesdale Rd. On October 24, 2015, Wesley preceded her in death.

Mrs. Manninen was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell. She had worked as a secretary for the Western Upper Peninsula Substance Abuse Coordinating Agency until her retirement in 1995. Marilyn and Wesley also had worked as a team owning an operating Wesley’s Auto Center for many years with Marilyn being the bookkeeper. She also enjoyed playing Bingo in her retirement and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death were her husband Wesley, her daughter Mary Ellen, her son Michael and her parents.

Her grandchildren: Heather, Holly, April and Cody
Her great granddaughter: Taylor
Her sisters-law: Gladys Perttunen of Lansing, MI
Kathryn Briscoe of Lake Orion, MI
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

A private graveside service for Marilyn will be held at a later time at the Woodland Cemetery of Winona.

Marilyn’s family would like to thank Dr. Bruce Trusock, the staff of the Light House in Hancock and UP Home Health and Hospice for the care given to Marilyn.
