Obituary: Marian Genevieve Milde

Marian Genevieve “Gen” Milde, 103, a longtime resident of Dollar Bay, passed away on Thursday morning, July 18, 2024.

Gen was born April 9, 1921 in Rockland, Michigan the daughter of the late Alvin and Eliza (Verville) Spitz. She graduated from Rockland High School in 1938, valedictorian of her class. Gen also played basketball and was a cheerleader for the Rockland Blackhawks. After high school she worked for the Cohodas-Paoli Company in Marquette and the Ontonagon Lumber Company.

On May 28, 1942 she married her sweetheart, Wilfred Milde at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockland. They were married over 56 years upon Wilfred’s death October 9, 1998.

With the arrival of her first child in 1945 she devoted her life to being a loving mother, wife, and homemaker. She was a faithful member of Saint Cecelia Parish in Hubbell and Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Dollar Bay, where she was active with the Altar Society and other committees.

Most of all, Gen’s focus was on her family. Whether it was baking the best cinnamon rolls and ginger snap cookies or typing up the kids’ term papers due the next day, Gen was always there for her family. Outside the home, she loved to play contract bridge with the ladies and she was quite good at it.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilfred, brothers Willard and Lawrence Spitz, grandson Oliver Thompson, and sons-in-law, Dan Lorenzetti and Canute Thompson.

Gen is survived by her four children: Joan Lorenzetti, Mary Thompson, Bryan (Patti), and Margaret Tembreull, sister Rosemary Short; grandchildren Michael (Kim) Lorenzetti, Danielle (Michael) Cyrus, Nathaniel, Adam, Rose, Joseph, Michelle and Mara Thompson, Susan (Mike) Steltenpole, Laura (Pascal) Johanning, Mike (Rachel) Tembreull, and Bobby Tembreull; numerous great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild, Carson.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on August 1, 2024 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Rev. Father Corey Litzner to officiate. Interment will be at the Rockland Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 until 10:45 A.M. before services.
