Obituary: Lyne Goldsworthy

Big Traverse: Lyne Marie (Perala) Goldsworthy, age 80, of South Big Traverse and Carney, MI, passed away peacefully with family by her side, at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, MI, April 12, 2023, after several years of declining health due to COPD.

She was born January 31, 1943, in the Quincy Hill area, of Hancock, MI, daughter of Matthew (Arnold) and Mildred (Erickson) Perala.  In her early years Lyne resided in New Allouez, where she attended Mohawk’s grade school and Calumet High School.  She married Clement Goldsworthy, June 18, 1960, at Holy Rosary Church in Lake Linden.

Lyne’s early adult life was spent in Lake Linden raising a family.  After her children were grown, she and her husband moved to Carney, MI, where she enjoyed a 20-year career at Superior Cedar Products.  Lyne enjoyed summers at Big Traverse, watching people on the shore, listening to old-time country music, dancing polkas and waltzes, traveling, eating marshmallow peeps with her coffee, and going to casinos with her family.  She loved spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A proud, caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Lyne leaves behind a devoted husband of 62 years, Clem Goldsworthy; four children, Cindy (Dwaine) Mellen of Carney, MI, Paula Crouch of Sault Ste Marie, MI, Jim (Julie) Goldsworthy of Lake Linden, MI and Randy Goldsworthy of Lake Linden, MI, ten grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Betty Kaiponen of Port Orchard, WA, Arnold (Jean) Perala of Lake Linden, Peter (Irene) Perala of Wayne, MI, and Curtis Perala of Houghton, MI, and a brother-in-law, Urban Lefebvre of Marquette, MI.  She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Lois Immonen and Gloria Lefebvre; brother-in-law, Richard Kaiponen, and son-in-law, John Crouch.

The Graveside Service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Lake Linden with Fr. Raju Jose to officiate.  The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
