Obituary: Lorraine (Lynn) Watt

As received from the Memorial Chapel & Plowe Funeral Homes:

Lorraine (Lynn) Watt of Houghton passed away on Friday February 5, 2021, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Lorraine was born December 3, 1941 in Boston Location to parents Peter and Evelyn (Lovelace) Hilton.  She was a graduate of Hancock High School with the class of 1960 and earned a secretarial certificate from Soumi College in 1961.

Lorraine used her skills beginning at Michigan Tech in the Athletic Department, then the Birmingham Public School System, before returning to the Copper Country to work at the Copper Country Medical Center before retiring in March of 2001 from Copper Country Mental Health.

Lorraine was united in marriage to Lynn Watts on May 21, 1966 and the couple made their home in Royal Oak, MI for years before returning to the Copper Country where she lived the remainder of her life.  They were blessed with 2 children, Jodi Lynne and Christopher.  After retirement they made their home in Sarasota Florida for the winter months – returning to Houghton in the late spring to get a taste of the winter they left behind.

Lorraine was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Houghton serving on various committees throughout her life.  After retirement, she was very active volunteering at Little Brothers, the Calumet Theater and Helping Hand.  She especially enjoyed being a host parent to many MTU students who attended Good Shepherd Church, serving them home cooked meals.  She was best known for her pies.

Lorraine is survived by her husband Lynn of 54 years, son Christopher of Iron Mountain, Brother John (Georgianna) of Olympia, WA, Sister, Lucelia (Bill) of Steamboat Springs, CO; brother-in-law: Jim and sister-in-law: Barb of Shelby Township, MI; Nimes Stacy, Lynne Marie, Loris and Jill; Nephews Peter, and Scott; godchild Jason Brooks and numerous relatives and wonderful friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, twin brothers Ronald and Arnold and daughter Jodi Lynn Watts.

A small private gather for Lorraine will be held later this spring with burial in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests memorials be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Houghton.

The Memorial Chapel & Plowe Funeral Homes of Hancock have been assisting the family with the arrangements.
