Obituary: Lorraine A. Maki

Lorraine A. Maki, 69, passed away on January 1, 2023, at Mission Point of Hancock, Michigan, where she had been a resident for several years.

She was born on April 6, 1953, in L’Anse, Michigan to Melford and Rita (Miron) LeClaire. Lorraine attended school in Baraga. She graduated in 1971. Lorraine married Raymond Maki on June 26, 1971 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Baraga, where she had been a lifetime member. She worked at Winkler’s Nursing Home as a Nurses’ Aide before taking a job in the kitchen where she worked for many years. Lorraine loved to go shopping, play cards, watch the Detroit Lions, and visit with family and friends.

Surviving is her daughter Wendy Liuska, and grandson David Liuska, sisters Mary Glover and Joanne LeClaire of Baraga; sister Carol Hamacher of L’Anse, and brother Paul LeClaire of Baraga; brothers-in-law Richard Hiltunen, Lance Heikkinen and Robert Maki, sisters-in-law Carol LeClaire, Darlene Briggs, Norma Osterman, and Joyce Burke and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, son David, son-in-law John Liuska, her parents, her brothers Jim, Joe, Pete, Doug and her twin brother Leonard; her sisters Charlene Hiltunen and Kathryn Heikkinen, brothers-in-law Gary Glover, Stewart Hamacher and Michael Osterman.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. Funeral services officiated by Father Corey Litzner will be held at 11 a.m. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join the for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral home.

Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery.
