Obituary: Linda Luokkanen

Linda Marie Luokkanen of Mohawk passed away on October 23, 2023, at Aspirus Keweenaw in Laurium following a lengthy illness.

Linda was born on June 24, 1947 in Laurium to Arvo and Lorraine Piirala. She graduated from Calumet High School. Linda met the love of her life, Bill Luokkanen, and they were married on November 5^th, 1967. Linda worked at Keweenaw County Road Commission until her retirement in 2007.

Linda was a compassionate, generous, and kind woman who loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She enjoyed listening to music and playing board games and cards. She was a talented crocheter and knitter. Linda was a member of the Keweenaw Women’s round table, where she loved volunteering and the life-long friendships that it provided.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Arvo and Lorraine Piirala, and her husband Bill Luokkanen.

Linda is survived by her children Bill (Pattie) Luokkanen, John Luokkanen, Davie (Lori Bohlsen) Luokkanen, and Kiirsten Luokkanen, her grandchildren Bill (Lana) Luokkanen, Ellie (Robert) Hirvi, Jacob Luokkanen, and Levi Sky, her step-grandchildren Taariq Bouissardane and Keenan (Lisa) Roemer, her great-grandchildren Nova Luokkanen, her step-great-grandchildren Oliver, Norah, and Summer Roemer, her brother Alan (Marianne) Piirala, her sister Carol (Jim) Kumpula, her brother-in-law Don Pavolich, her sister-in-law Jane (Karl) Bjorn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

A funeral service for Linda Luokkanen will be held on Friday, October 27^th, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, Michigan. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 27^th, 2023 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, Michigan. A burial will take place at the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek, Michigan.

The Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home will be assisting the family with arrangements.
